Traveling on a Budget

If you’ve got the travel bug but don’t have the funds, you may feel like a destination vacation is a distant dream. Not so! Traveling on a budget has never been easier, and if you think budget means dirty communal hostels, think again. Don’t put off your dream vacation for another year. There are plenty of options for the cash-conscious traveler, and if you know how to plan the sky is the limit.

If you dream of a tropical vacation complete with turquoise waters and gently swaying palm trees, your dream can come true sooner than you think. All-inclusive vacation packages in sunny locals such as Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Barbados are surprisingly affordable. All-inlcusives are great since your flight, hotel, food, and drink are all included for one surprisingly reasonable price. Many resorts also offer fun activities that are included as well. Book last minute and you could be staying at a five star hotel for the price of a three star. Another tropical option is right in your own backyard. Florida, Hawaii, and California are all home to gorgeous beaches that will make you wonder if you are still actually in the US.

If Europe is where you want to be, fret not about the expensive Euro. If you plan on staying in one city for the duration of your vacation, consider renting an apartment. Just like a bed-and-breakfast without the food, apartment rentals offer an inexpensive option for the budget-minded traveler. Staying in a unique apartment also give you an opportunity to check out less touristy areas of major European cities. Many also include kitchenettes so you can enjoy fresh meals from local grocery stores. Truly a one-of-a-kind experience. You may also want to consider traveling in the off-season since prices usually take a considerable dip.

Booking with a travel agent has become somewhat passé, and the deals you can get online just can’t be beat. Hotels and flights can be booked at significant savings, and you can check back as often as you like for updated prices. Many travel websites will even email you when prices change on flight details. Anyone with a computer and Internet connection can book their entire vacation and save a bundle.

Dream vacations are within your reach if you simply spend some time making plans and finding the right price for you. No matter what your budget, you can have the perfect vacation and see the world.

Obesity Rates and Lie Detectors

With the growing obesity rates in America, we must take a look at the benefits of becoming obese. There’s always a silver lining to every cloud, right? So, let’s start this journey, you and I, through the brighter side of life.

If your are obese, and according to the CDC there’s a good chance you are, you will have the opportunity to learn your spouse’s “dishonest face”. We all know we have one, the facial expression that you try to hide when telling an untruth. How, you say, will being amongst the rising obesity rates help you to memorize that particular expression of your partner’s? It’s simple, once you’ve come to terms with your hindquarters never being the size of a Hollywood starlet’s, ask your life partner, “does this make my butt look big?”. He will weigh his options for a few seconds, realize this is a trick question and immediately tell you “no”, regardless of what he really thinks. He will do this because he loves you, and as to spare himself the verbal lashing he may get if he says otherwise. We mustn’t forget either that if he answers to the affirmative, he will undoubtedly have to wait at least another hour before departing.

With that said, I ask myself, is this why the policeman and the doughnut go so well together? Do they form some sort of cosmic human lie detector? If so, then I applaud them. Law enforcement officers may contribute to the growing obesity rates in America, being unselfish with each Krispy Kreme, to become more in tune with their corrupt detainees bouts of dishonesty.

In conclusion, a human lie detector may not be the only benefit of being obese. Finding time to exercise is not quite as difficult, a short walk should do the trick! If you’re ever stranded in the cold, you’ll have plenty of insulation. Lastly, being obese tends to help you have a more cheery disposition. You know you’ve had that last piece of chocolate and it’s not just sitting there tempting you, thus you feel awfully good. Just as I said earlier, we must take what life gives us and make the best of it. I always try to look at the bright side, no reason being depressed over things we cannot control. I make plenty of mistakes of my own volition that can cause depression!

British Columbia – Ranchlands and Rivers Circle

Although you could start your drive anywhere along this circle route, this one starts out from Hope. This town is nestled against the Cascade Mountains on the banks of the Fraser River. Hope, only two hours inland from the west coast enjoys a temperate climate thanks to warm, moist Pacific Ocean airstreams. Comfortable and relatively dry summers and mild, wet winters. Snow infrequently falls in low-lying areas and when it does, it usually melts within days. Nearby is the stunning Fraser canyon gorge, an area featured in numerous movies filmed in Hope, including “Rambo-First Blood” with Sylvester Stallone.

You’ll head north on Hwy 1, following the mighty Fraser River, named after Simon Fraser, the first European to navigate its waters. Once a transportation link for wagons and stagecoaches traveling the old Cariboo Wagon Road, the Fraser Canyon roadway now transports you through awe-inspiring scenery.

Cutting a heart-stopping swath through the Cascade Mountains and the Coast Mountains, the river creates a colossal valley of lush forests, dramatic gorges and mountainside farms.

Your first stop is at Hell’s Gate to see nature in its full magnificence. Over 200 million gallons of water surge through this narrow, 110 foot gorge every minute. That is twice the volume of Niagara Falls. You can take an airtram on smooth 500 foot descent above the gorge to feel the rush of raging waters, view the International Fishways that flank the gorge and maybe even spot rafters shooting the rapids.

From here you head north to Lytton where the Fraser River meets the Thompson River creating a dramatic surge which has earned Lytton the title of “Rating Capital of Canada”. Rapids such as Devil’s Gorge and Witch’s Cauldron swirl and dip to the heights of 15 feet. Scenic fishing, hiking and camping are also nearby.

You continue north to Lillooet – the official start of the old Cariboo Wagon Road – where you can try panning for gold. Journey on Hwy 99 back to Hwy 97; then head north to the cowboy town of Clinton.

Clinton came into being during the Cariboo Gold Rush and never lost the flavor of the Old West. Known as the “Gateway to the Cariboo”, it sits at the junction of two historic routes to the gold fields: the original wagon road that ran from Harrison Lake and through Lillooet and its replacement, the Cariboo Wagon Road, which was called “the eighth wonder of the world” in its day. When the gold rush died down, ranching became the area’s major industry and it’s still an important part of the local economy.

Further north at 93 Mile turn east on Hwy 24, better known as the “Fishing Highway” to make your way through the Interlakes community. This famous road stretching from here to Little Fort is your access to over 100 fishing lakes. Stop to fly fish or troll for trout, burbot and kokanee. Paddle some of the smaller pristine lakes, enjoy wildlife viewing, or set off on a backcountry trail ride at one of the area’s many guest ranches.

From Little Fort you turn south on Hwy 5 and head to Kamloops, home of the Kamloops Cowboy Festival. The area’s rivers, mountains, lakes and grasslands will leave an indelible impression on you. Stay at any of the area’s many resorts – from mountain to fly fishing resorts, remote lodges to luxury retreats – some cater to the entire family while others provide pampering and solitude for a special getaway complete with spa services and gourmet dining.

Head south from Kamloops on Hwy 5 to Merritt and to the sunny Nicola Valley, land of grasslands, rolling hills and shimmering lakes. Ranching is a huge part of the Nicola Valley and where you can visit the Douglas Lake Ranch, Canada’s largest working cattle ranch. If you’re there in July, check out the Merritt Mountain Music Festival, featuring some country music’s best and most promising performers. Or you can listen to the birds along the Harmon Lake Interpretive Trail in Kane Valley. Explore the Nicola Valley Museum and Archives which depicts valley life at the turn of the 20th century.

From Merritt, head south on Hwy 5A to Princeton. You can hike or bike the Trans Canada Trail along one of two rivers that meet in Princeton. To the west you’ll go through tunnels and over bridges; to the east, the higher elevation takes you through grasslands, lakes and forests.

Back on the road again, you can take Hwy 3 west to Hope, where you started the tour some days ago. This tour as described is about 449 miles and could take from four to seven days.

London’s Famous Buildings

If you’ve never been to London, or have even been there several times, there are points of interest throughout the city that are worth checking out. London is not only rich in history, but offers wonderfully famous buildings. Visiting them during your trip is definitely a must.

Perhaps one of the most famous buildings in London is Buckingham Palace. The home of Queen Elizabeth II, it has housed Britain’s sovereigns since 1837. Since then it has evolved from a mere town house that was once owned by the Dukes of Buckingham in the 18th century.

Other famous buildings that house London’s royalty are St. James Place, Clarence House, and also Kensington Palace. Kensington Palace was started in 1689 when William and Mary purchased the mansion shortly after their ascension. It was then converted to a royal palace by Sir Christopher Wren. Today half of the building is used for royal apartments while the other half is open to the public.

Sir Christopher Wren also designed and built St. Paul’s Cathedral following the Great Fire of 1666. It was left in ruins after the fire and Wren was commissioned to rebuild it by London’s authorities. This building is considered to be Wren’s greatest creation.

The Tower of London had originally been built for use as a fortress to keep out hostile Londoners and to survey enemies who approached on the Thames river. Since then is has been used as a palace, library, mint, treasury, bank, arsenal, observatory, and, most famously, a prison.

Westminster Abbey isn’t just one of the more beautiful of London’s famous buildings, but it is also the final resting place for some of Britain’s most famous monarchs, the setting for coronations, and also other wonderful pageants. Within its walls visitors can see great examples of London’s medical architecture, as well as an impressive collection of toms and monuments. Westminster Abby is perhaps most well-known for being the site of Princess Diana’s funeral.

Completed in 1871, Royal Albert Hall is a beautiful structure that was modelled after Roman amphitheatres. Today the hall is used for both classical concerts and other large gatherings.

In 1514, the Archbishop of York, Cardinal Wolsey, started Hampton Court Palace with the intentions of it being a riverside country residence. But in 1535, with the hopes of gaining royal favour, Wolsey offered it to King Henry VIII. As with other famous buildings in London, Sir Christopher Wren once again had a hand in it when he was hired by William and Mary in the 1690’s to create its beautiful baroque landscapes.

The No. 10 Downing Street houses Britain’s Prime Minister, who currently is Tony Blair. It began its service to Britain’s Prime Ministers when George II gave it to Sir Robert Walpole in 1732.

Lastly is Harrod’s Department Store, and one of London’s most famous buildings. It began in 1849 when Henry Charles Harrod opened a small grocery store. Throughout the years the store’s quality and service has allowed it to expand and become what we know it as today.

Of course there are many other famous buildings, as well as some other lesser known, that are worth seeing on a trip to London. Make sure to do your research prior to leaving on your trip to make sure you are able to see the buildings that best match your interests.

The Web Design Client Relationship

One of the most important key points to remember in any profession is that clients need to be nurtured. Quite often in a business relationship some people might assume that since we are all adults we are all going to pull our own weight. However, the client-designer relationship is more of a courting relationship above all else. In the design industry you have to keep them interested and make sure they know you’re interested as well.

Keeping the communication open and consistent is one of the best ways to ensure a successful relationship. A project can be measured by its success by how well it went from concept design to the final layout. If the conversation is kept alive then project completion is more likely to see the light of day. Web design in Riverside California is no exception in that quality and communication are essential to successful businesses. One client may only want a small site or an equally low scale project, but if they are not constantly receiving continuous contact and input they will no understand. Things get delayed, and delayed projects don’t pay.

Depending on the personality and the scope of the project, your client may wish to be more involved than you like. In cases such as these they should be handled carefully. Send them checklists if necessary to make sure they cover all the answers you need before you clock more hours on a project they constantly want to be involved with. Most of all make sure your client is involved in the process, and if possible happy.

Nuevo Progreso : Good Place, One Bad Dentist

Nuevo Progreso is a nice mexican border town. Medicine and dential work are the main attractions. There are more then 50 dential clincs / offices. One I would not recommend to go to is the Rio Dental Clinic.

I went in the office, and they had decent equiptment. I had a crown placed on one of my teeth.

First, the “putty” that they used to make the modling for the crown was not even dental putty, but some regular putty you will find at some hardware store. I hope it does not cause cancer. :(

The crown did not cover all the way to the gum line. Second, the dentist adjusted the crown by grinding down on one of the upper teeth.

The dentist:

She was not caring but grumpy on the second part of the crown process.
First part when she grind the tooth so the cap can be placed, she was decent, maybe a little rough with the injection of the novocaine. the needle hit my jaw bone and caused pain for a couple of days.
Second part she was all upset that I was 5 minutes late to the appointment. She jerked out my temporary crown by using my other teeth as a lever for the metal probe. And she became really upset when the crown did not fit right, like it was my fault!

I will say this. There are better dentist with the same prices else where in Nuevo Progreso.

An Evening of Murder, Mystery & Mayhem!

Suddenly the lights go out and you are startled by the sound of a gunshot. The
lights come back on and you see a dead man lying next to you! As you look around
the room you notice some very shady characters. One of them must be the
murderer, but which one is it?

This may sound like a movie, but it isn’t. You are in fact participating in an exciting
murder mystery party game.

Murder Mystery Parties are becoming a very popular entertainment choice for Party
Hostesses looking for something unique. Party planners want their event to be
talked about in excited conversations for weeks afterwards. Your run of the mill
food, music and social gathering just doesn’t garner real excitement. Hostesses are
now looking for other ways to get their guest excited about attending. Many are
tying Theme Parties, which can be fun. Even more fun is a murder mystery theme
party.

Murder mystery games have been around a very long time and have been very
popular in the UK for about 15 years. The last 2 years has seen a huge growth of
interest in the USA as more people are becoming exposed to them. The first murder
mystery games featured actors who portrayed characters using scripted roles. They
would mingle with the guests dropping clues. These are still performed today at
large fund raising events and murder mystery dinner theaters.

The next generation of games let the guests themselves play the characters but the
parts were still scripted. Later boxed sets were introduced which were scripted and
played out in rounds, much like a board game. While these could be enjoyable they
lacked spontaneity or the ability to be creative. Everything went exactly as scripted.

Today a new genre of Murder Mystery Games is emerging. In the older versions
solving the murder was the sole point of the game. Some of the new murder
mystery games have many subplots. Guests will have their own nefarious agendas.
Parts are no longer scripted. Instead characters receive detailed backgrounds which
details their fictional relationships with other characters at the party. They also have
secrets of their own which may have nothing to do with the murder that occurs.
Participants take on their characters persona.

After the murder they learn certain details of the crime through evidence,
eavesdropping and questioning other characters. Some games include play money,
which can be used for buying information, blackmailing and other nefarious
schemes. All of this leads to extensive social interaction, which is the real point of a
party, isn’t it?

How many boring parties have you been to where there were small groups of people
gathered together into clusters? Or even more horrifying to the host/ess are people
standing around not conversing at all. This just doesn’t happen at a well-written
murder mystery party. With a good game the guests get so caught up in their own
schemes that they sometimes forget to even investigate the murder!
Each murder mystery game usually takes place in exotic locations and timelines.
These can include gangsters in Chicago during the roaring twenties or sock hops in
the fifties. You might even be taken to fictional settings. These settings allow
participants to don great costumes, which allow them to more fully experience the
ambience of the game.

When you decide to host a murder mystery party there are some things you should
look for:

• First and foremost is to stay away from scripted games. These allow no
imagination or spontaneity and play more like a board game. For true enjoyment
your guests need to feel immersed in the world your chosen game has created.

• Look for a theme that you think your guests would enjoy. My bestseller is
Murder at the Four Deuces, which takes place in 1920’s Chicago. The reason this
game is so successful is very simple and something many people don’t think about.
Men are usually the first to balk at participating in this type of event. When told that
they will be playing a gangster they become excited about the idea. They get to play
powerful characters. It also allows them and the other guests to be bad, without
actually being bad. It is exciting to be able to unleash our normally suppressed
tendencies without suffering any guilt. Something we don’t want to do in real life,
but relish doing in a make believe way. So whatever game you do decide on it is a
good idea to choose one with good strong characters for the men.

• Look for a game that is easy to host. Most of the good games are
purchased and downloaded from the Internet. There is too much to them to include
in a box. This does not mean that they have to be hard to host. I operated a murder
mystery theater before I developed the Dinner and a Murder game system. I knew
how important it is to be able to have easy to follow instructions. The night of the
party the last thing a host/ess needs is to have to scramble around trying to run the
game, while making sure all the guests are happy, food is served, cleaning up. You
get my point. A good game will have very few hosting duties associated with the
game allowing the host to participate as a character also. If the host guide reads like
a technical manual move on.

• Do not purchase a game that does not have an introductory file that you
can read before purchasing. All games are not created equal. There are good ones
and bad ones out there. You do not want to take a chance on harming your
reputation by hosting a bad murder mystery party. If a site cannot give you a partial
glimpse of the actual game then they are very likely hiding something. This
introduction should contain the host guide and other details about the game that
will give you a good feel for how it will work.

• While you are at the web site also look for customer comments. Of course
we all know that they are not going to post negative comments on the site and
could in fact make up comments. If you only see one or two line comments be leery.
Customer comments can also give you great ideas for throwing your own party. I am
constantly amazed by my customers creativity.

• Murder Mystery Game Kit Contents: A good kit will have everything you
need to play the game. You should not have to go out and purchase elaborate
props. It should have invitations, host guide, characters & evidence at the least.
Game money is a plus that adds a whole new dimension to the game experience.

• Either the kit or the web site should also give you party theme ideas.
Everything from menu, decorations, hairstyles, music & costumes can give a host
very good ideas for their party.

• If your kit does not contain certificates you can design some yourself. It is
always nice to be rewarded in the game for solving the murder, best costume, best
actor etc… Certificate paper can be purchased at an office supply store and is very
inexpensive.

Next I will give you some tips on planning and hosting a murder mystery party:

• Try to plan your event at least 2 weeks in advance. You can throw a last
minute party, but things will be much less stressful with careful planning.

• Before sending out the Invitations it is a very good idea to call or email
your guests. Tell them about your party including theme, date & time. Inform them
that due to the nature of murder mystery games you need a definite R.S.V.P. before
assigning characters. Let your guests know that when they confirm you are counting
on them to attend.

• When it comes to food easier is better. I have thrown murder mystery
parties where I did all of the cooking and it made for a very stressful day and party.
Unless you can have your party catered, the easiest menu is done potluck. The first
time I decided to do this I worried about what my guests would think, but to my
surprise they loved the idea. It gives them a chance to contribute to the party and
show off their culinary skills. Just about everyone has a special dish that they excel
at. If not there are always needed items that don’t require cooking skills. Drinks, ice,
cups etc…

• After the solution has been read it is always fun to go around the room
and let each character reveal their secrets. Your guests will be amazed at what they
didn’t know was going on under their noses.

• This tip isn’t necessary but I have found it adds a fun element to a murder
mystery party. If your party utilizes game money I ask guests to also bring a small
inexpensive item. I also cruise the dollar store and spend about $30 on small,
unique items. For my last party I bought butterfly houses, wind chimes, scented
candles unique picture frames and other items. After the party ended we held an
auction with all the items. Guests used their play money winnings to bid and
purchase items. Everyone left with a small remembrance in addition to a smile on
his or her face.

Using this advice your next party is sure to be one people will talk about for weeks.
So be brave. Plan a party your guests will be DYING to attend!
