Bluffing too often is a very common poker mistake. It usually affects newbies, since bluffing is a fairly new concept. When a new player bluffs successfully for the first time, it’s pretty exhilarating. He just put money in the pot with garbage and intimidated someone into folding, and he just won a hand without drawing winning cards. It’s all a rush, but amidst all the excitement it can be easy to get carried away.
If you’ve bluffed well once, it’s easier to try it again, and again, and before you know it, the whole poker table knows that you’re going to try to buy the pot whenever you get the chance. It’s only a matter of time before someone who’s actually got a winning hand calls your bluff or someone makes a good read on you and forces you out of the hand with a reraise.
Be sure to space out your bluffing attempts. If you have obviously bought a pot, wait a while before your try to buy another one. If possible, show a few winning hands before your next bluff to convince your poker online opponents that you are playing honestly. The more honest that your opponents think you play, the more successful your bluffs will be.
