Traits of a Good Interview

Anyone would know a great interview when they see it. A good interview demystifies godlike people, from royalty to rockers, and lowers them to a level at par with mere mortals, humanizing them. It shocks the people, but mostly it satisfies them because they are reassured, once again, that everyone has the same sporting chance under the sky. Between them and the public figures on high are the interviewers who have the occasionally thankless venture to move heaven closer to earth. And so, America was as much in awe of Barbara Walters as Monica Lewinsky when the two sat down to talk about the Clinton scandal. Americans watched with baited breath too as President Richard Nixon got skewered by David Frost for an apology, short of a full-scale confession to Watergate. Richard Meryman of Life had the honor of talking with Marilyn Monroe for her last interview. If anything, nothing could ever be as indelible in one’s memories as Princess Diana gabbing with Martin Bashir and bemoaning her convoluted life with Prince Charles. All these are the stuff of memorable conversations, and there is a fine thread coursing through them — the stars replied to exceptional questions and laid bare their souls.

Interview Nation features a video and article about how Ken Mehlman and the Environmental Defense Fund are working to improve environmental standards in business operations.

Ken Mehlman talks about how KKR and the Environmental Defense Fund have saved companies $16 million through environmental initiatives.

Ken Mehlman is the Head of Global Public Affairs for Kravis Kohlberg and Roberts.
